What's in pedialyte?

What IS in pedialyte? That's what I'm thinking as I'm driving to Walgreens in my pjs at 2am (my pjs are cute, btw, they can pass for clothes. I'm not THAT adapted to this area, because sometimes you can't tell if someone is a homeless or a socal resident).

There's a group of belligerent weirdos in front of the drugstore and when I ask if there is someone to escort me back to my car, the pregnant girl at the checkout counter tells me that there are only women workers tonight. What kind of genius put that schedule together? Great, now I'm going to end up in a trunk of a car on the way to Tijuana with the pedialyte in hand while my kid shits himself to dehydration at home, soiling his bed AND ours, for the fun of all involved in changing sheets and diapers.

But what IS in pedialyte? Isn't that baby Gatorade? I asked the pediatric nurse on call. Yes and no in that pedialyte has all the minerals and electrolytes, minus the Gatorade sugar. Some athletes even prefer it to a sports drink.

I did a little research on what else is in it to make it so great because I can't sleep anymore and have nothing better to do. Baby can't stand it, btw. He takes a sip of his bottle and gives me that look that says, wtf, mom, this is not milk.

What's in it: water, sodium (which aids in water and carbohydrate absorption), chloride (which aids in nutrient absorption), potassium (which regulates heart rate, nerve action, and energy production - as someone with a heart condition I know all too well what lack of potassium can do to a heart beat), zinc (which helps with immunity and gets lost with diarrhea), and a little carbohydrate, for energy.

Baby is back to sleep (and so is dad). The sun has come up and momma is going for a run, because like baby, I will try and keep my sweet disposition, and also because I am weird like that. Who needs sleep anyway?

Now, tell me, is this the face of someone who has the runs?
